梁思成中国建筑文化海外译写研究

Liang Sicheng's Overseas Compositional Translation of Chinese Architectural Culture

梁思成是20世纪中国建筑学界最具影响力的人物之一,不仅在建筑史学、建筑教育、古建保护方面成就卓越,而且在中国建筑文化海外译写方面贡献巨大。本文聚焦梁思成1924至1947年间发表的系列英文著述,考察梁思成如何在中国建筑文化译写过程中,探索中国建筑术语的英文翻译问题。通过对其英文著述中“侏儒柱”“歇山顶”“斗拱”“塔”等建筑术语翻译的历时考察,我们发现梁思成对中国本土建筑术语的英文翻译策略不是一成不变的,有归化(术语格义),也有异化(跨文化阐释、音译、图像等)。他对于术语“斗拱”的翻译从归化逐渐过渡到异化,循序渐进地将中国建筑文化推介给英语读者,向英语世界展示中国建筑文化的独特意义,推动了中西建筑文化的交流与融合,并为世界建筑文化的发展作出了中国人特有的贡献。梁思成的中国建筑术语翻译及其背后的文化翻译思想,对于当下中国学术话语的海外构建具有十分重要的理论价值与实践意义。

Liang Sicheng is one of the most influential figures in Chinese architectural world of the 2Oth century.This article focuses on Liang's series of English writings published between 1924 and 1947,examining how he explored the English translation of Chinese architectural terminology in the process of translating Chinese architectural culture.Liang used both domestication(or Geyi)and foreignization(cross-cultural interpretation,transliteration,images,etc.)strategies,progressively introducing Chinese architectural culture to English readers,displaying its unique significance,promoting the exchange and integration of Chinese and Western architectural cultures,and making remarkable contributions to the development of world architectural culture.
