Terminalia chebula is the dry ripe fruit of the plant Terminalia chebula Retz.Or Terminalia chebula Retz.var.tomentella Kurt.,which is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine,Tibetan medicine,Mongolian medicine,Indian medicine,Iranian medicine, and other traditional medicines.Termina⁃lia chebula is also one of the 117"other natural plants that can be used for feeding"in the Feed Raw Material Catalogue of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China. The main components of Terminalia chebula include tannins, triterpenoids, phenolic acids, berberine, flavonoids, etc.Terminalia chebula has abilities such as astringent,anti-pathogenic microorganisms, reducing endotoxin damage and inflammatory reaction,anti-oxidation,and improving intestinal barrier function.Currently, there is insufficient research and limited application of Terminalia chebula and its extracts in animal husbandry, but they have great application potential. The article summarized the latest research results on the effective components and modern pharmacological function of Terminalia chebula and its extracts both domestically and internationally, thus to provide theoretical support for the application of Terminalia chebula and its extracts in animal husbandry.
