The Social Cohesion Function of Language

语言不仅是传递信息、交流思想的渠道,还是强化文化认同、提升社会凝聚力的基石,语言的社会凝聚力研究日益受到学界关注。从语言的信息、情感和经济三大功能视域,讨论语言与社会凝聚力之间的关系,分析语言社会凝聚力的内涵、特征及研究现状,认为信息层面,语言有助于畅通交流、夯实身份认同;情感层面,语言可以增强情感联结、众心成城;经济层面,语言关乎调节资源分配、强化归属融合,语言有助于铸牢中华民族共同体意识、维系民族团结与推进共同富裕。

Language is not only a channel for information transmission and thought exchange,but also a cornerstone for strengthening cultural identity and enhancing social cohesion;the research on the relationship between language and social cohesion has begun to attract academic attention.This paper draws on three functions of a language,namely,its information,emotional,and economy functions,discusses the relationship between language and social cohesion,and analyzes the connotation,characteristics and research status-quo of language social cohesion.Language,at its information aspect,can consolidate identity;at the emotional aspect,can enhance emotional connection and cohesion;at the economy aspect,is related to regulating resource allocation and strengthening belonging integration.Lastly,this paper takes China as an example to discuss how language can help forge the consciousness of the Chinese nation's community,maintain national unity and promote common prosperity.
