Chinese“Rhetoric”:Evolution from Concept to Discipline

学科发展需以核心概念的确立为前提。中国的修辞学发展经历了从“文论附庸”到“独立学科”的过程,也就是“修辞”从术语、语符到概念的历程。1932年,《修辞学发凡》正式提出了学科意义上的修辞概念,标志着现代汉语修辞学的建立。纵观修辞由概念到学科的衍变过程,可以发现历史积累促进了修辞观念觉醒,而修辞的历史探索深化了对于修辞本质的认识,最终形成了“修辞”概念。修辞概念的演化,意味着对于修辞本质认识的进一步深入,促进了修辞学的新发展。

The development of disciplines should be based on the establishment of core concepts.The development of rhetoric in China has gone through a process from an“appendage of literary theory”to an“independent discipline”,that is,the process though which“rhetoric”evolved from terms,symbols to concepts.In 1932,An Introduction of Main Ideas of Rhetoric officially put forward the concept of rhetoric in a disciplinary sense,marking the establishment of modern Chinese rhetoric.Throughout the evolution of rhetoric from concept to discipline,we can find that the accumulation of history promoted the awakening of rhetoric concept,and the historical exploration of rhetoric deepened people’s understanding of rhetoric essence,and finally led to the formation of the concept“rhetoric”.The evolution of rhetoric concept means the further understanding of rhetoric essence and has promoted the new development of rhetoric.
