The Significance of Jiang Nanxiang’s Higher Education Thought and Its Enlightenment to the Construction of an Educational Power

蒋南翔同志是一位杰出的马克思主义教育家、中国社会主义教育事业的开拓者和创新者之一。他立足实际,结合清华大学自身特点和发展阶段,倡导结合其他国家的经验走自己的发展道路,积极探索办好中国特色的社会主义一流大学之路。在其高等教育思想中体现出来的坚持党的领导与高等教育高质量发展的高度统一、心怀“国之大者”培养人才与培养心怀“国之大者”人才的高度统一、尊重高等教育规律与开拓创新的高度统一,这“三个高度统一”是弥足珍贵的思想遗产,其时代意义对于当前我国加快建设教育强国具有重要的启示。

Jiang Nanxiang,a distinguished Marxist educator,was one of the pioneers and innovators of socialist education with Chinese characteristics.Based on Tsinghua University’s characteristics and development stage,he advocated that Tsinghua follow its own development path in combination with the experience of other countries and actively explored the road to running a first-class socialist university with Chinese characteristics.His higher education thoughts conveyed“three high unities”,i.e.the high unity of adhering to the Party’s leadership and high-quality development of higher education,the high unity of cultivating talents with“the fundamental interests of the country”in mind and raising such awareness among them,and the high unity of respecting the rule of higher education and persistence in pioneering and innovation.This is a precious ideological legacy.Jiang Nanxiang’s higher education thoughts have important implications for speeding up the construction of a powerful country in education.
