For Badiou's philosophy,subtraction is not only the core of the framework of being and event,but also the ultimate path of seeking truth.The roots of subtraction are affirmative,beginning with the restoration of lost and true beliefs in an era of pervasive nihilism,with the aim of revealing the absent and unmanifested.Subtraction,as a methodology,is not only a means of constructing artistic noumenon,but also a creative principle of minimalism and restraint.It is also an abstract,pure and non-reproducing formalism style,its path is to replace violent confrontation with betrayals,absences,restraint and so on and create a brand-new space from it.Badiou's art of subtraction created a new version of the theory of artistic self-discipline,which not only criticized imperial art but also pointed out the way for the development of“materialism formalization”in contemporary art,which laid the ideological foundation for the concept of political subtraction of communism.
