We Still Need to Read Philip Larkin:Re-Canonizing Larkin's Poetry

在过去的30多年里,菲利普·拉金的诗名受到一些抨击,他的作品也因此没能再进入文学“经典”的行列。拉金诗歌被“去经典化”的原因是,不少学者认为他的诗歌过于消极悲观,不能被看成文学“经典”。持上述观点的评论家大多关注与拉金有关的非文学资料,而对其诗歌本身内在“经典性”的讨论并不充分。有鉴于此,该文从拉金诗歌被“去经典化”的现象入手,发掘其内在价值,以此证实拉金的诗歌并不悲观。此外,该文进一步说明,拉金诗歌还因联结了过去与未来,有无限隽永的价值,应重归“经典”队列。一言以蔽之,我们要返归拉金诗歌的“经典性”,我们仍需阅读拉金。

Philip Larkin has faced such harsh criticism from critics over the last three decades that his poetry has almost been eliminated from the literary canon.This de-canonization was made imperative since many critics maintains that Larkin's poetry cannot be interpreted as canon because it is so negative and pessimistic.The commentators highlight non-literary works related to Larkin excessively while ignoring the inherent canonicity of Larkin's poetry.On that account,the present paper first discusses the de-canonization of Larkin's poetry before delving into its canonicity.Furthermore,the paper also makes the argument that Larkin's poetry should once again be read as canon because it bridges the past and future.In a word,Larkin's poetry has to be re-canonized and we need stand up for it.
