The Impact of Cultural Appropriation in Cross-Cultural Communication:A Case Study of the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Online Controversy

数字时代跨文化交流中的“文化挪用”问题是引发网络民族主义情绪反应、关涉文化自信的核心议题,是文化政策关注的重点归纳总结。以《尚气与十环传奇》的相关网络争议为观察对象,从相关微博评论中归纳总结两派争议群体的特征,探讨该争议中文化挪用问题产生的根源,构建当下文化管理和文化政策的理论和现实基础。研究表明:仅以历史屈辱为由的“反对派”批评该片是“错误的文化挪用”,其强烈的网络民族主义倾向对少数包容跨文化交流的“支持派”形成压制。面对网络民族主义情绪的监管引导不足、文化创伤传播的扩张、国际文化贸易领域文化产品的包容性不足等问题,相关部门需要对网络民族主义进行专项治理,加强文化自信的宣传教育工作,进一步完善扩大文化开放和文明交流互鉴的政策措施。

This study examines the issue of cultural appropriation in cross-cultural communication in the digital age,which triggers nationalist emotions on the internet and involves cultural confidence.It has been a focus of cultural policy for a long time.The research focuses on the controversy surrounding the film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on the internet.It identifies the characteristics of the two opposing groups in the controversy through relevant Weibo comments.The study explores the root causes of cultural appropriation in this controversy,forming the theoretical and practical basis for current cultural management and policy.The analysis of the online dispute reveals that a large number of the"opposing"group have strong nationalist tendencies on the internet.They criticize the film as"incorrect cultural appropriation"on the grounds of historical humiliation.These tendencies suppress the"supportive"minority that promotes inclusive cross-cultural exchange.There is a need for special governance of online nationalism due to inadequate guidance on controlling nationalist emotions online.The expansion of cultural trauma and the lack of inclusivity of cultural products in the international cultural trade exacerbates the problem.It is crucial to strengthen the promotion of cultural confidence through propaganda and education and to improve further policy measures to expand cultural openness and promote cultural exchange and mutual learning.
