Objective:Polyethylene glycol(PEG)is a linear polymer formed by ring-opening polymerization of ethylene oxide active anions. It is a relatively safe and stable drug.PEG can seal the spinal cord axon stump membrane and fusion axis.Based on this feature,Ren Xiaoping's team from Ruikang hospital afiliated to Guangxi university of traditional Chinese medicine conducted a study on spinal cord injury(SCI).A new treatment method is proposed for the world problem, that is,the application of PEG to the spinal cord section in the spinal cord complete transection model constructed by"sharp knife",and the detection by behavioral observation, difusion tensor imaging(DTI),electrophysiological examination and other methods.and observe the effect.Experimental studies have been successflly completed in mice, rats, beagle dogs and cynomolgus monkeys, and important progress has been made. This innovative technology,"spinal cord fusion(SCF)",is currently in clinical trials, which is expected to bring hope to the majority of SCI patients.
