新文化地理学视域下《非洲的假面剧》镜像中的乌干达意象

摘要 新文化地理学将“地方”作为核心概念,认为它是被人类赋予文化、情感和功能,并得到人类认同的主观构建的结果。维·苏·奈保尔在乌干达等6个非洲国家亲身游历,并以此为素材创作游记《非洲的假面剧》。其中第一章《卡苏比王陵》写实且客观地记录了处于现代化进程中的乌干达社会现状,尤其对乌干达现代化进程与自然生态保护、非洲传统信仰与外来宗教的矛盾进行了深刻描绘。本文试图从新文化地理学入手,通过分析游记中大量关于景观设施、宗教信仰和当地人民文化生活的真实记叙,重点观照游记镜像中的乌干达意象,对乌干达进行“地方”构建,分析人与“地方”的文化和情感联系。 “Place”is the central concept of new cultural geography,where it is viewed as the product of subjective construction,encompassing cultural,emtional,functional,and identity aspects.Travelling through six African countries including Uganda,V.S.Naipaul used his own experience as material for his travel notes The Masque of Africa.In the book,The Tombs of Buganda Kings at Kasubi authentically recorded the status quo of Ugandan society in the post-colonial era,especially the depiction of contradiction between Uganda’s modernization process and natural ecological protection,African traditional beliefs and foreign religions.Based on the theory of new cultural geography,this article attempts to discuss the imagery,recognize the“Place”of Uganda,and analyze the cultural and emotional connection between people and place through analysis of a great many narratives about landscape facilities,religious beliefs and the cultural life of local people in the travel notes.
