视觉修辞与《点石斋画报》器物叙事的“现代性”表征

Visual Rhetoric and Representation of Modernity in the Artifact Narrative of Tienshihchai Pictorial

作为《点石斋画报》“低调启蒙”的表现形式,器物叙事既是画报对“西学东渐”社会语境的视觉回应,更是其承载“现代性”启蒙的可能性路径。画报以“图-文”互文的表意格局强化了器物叙事的“事件性”出场,以民族图像符号的跨场域移植与虚拟场景的审美建构推动了西方叙事语境的中国在场,以中西绘画话语的时空并置来营造文化场域的对话机制。尽管这一修辞性的视觉建构更多出于彼时办刊的条件所限,但因地制宜的视觉改良却成就了画报表征“现代性”的独特形式,也使得考察画报视觉形式与潜在启蒙意指的关系更为可能,它不仅深化了我们对《点石斋画报》政治属性的理性认知,对当代视觉文化的意识形态建构同样不无启发。

As the manifestation of“low-profile enlightenment”of Tienshihchai Pictorial,artifact narrative is not only the Pictorial’s visual response to the social context of“gradual advancement of Eastern learning from the West”,but also a possible path to the enlightenment of“modernity”.The Pictorial focuses on the“event”appearance of artifact narrative by means of the ideological pattern of“image-text”intertextuality,promotes the Chinese presence in the Western narrative context through cross-field transplantation of national image symbols and aesthetic construction of virtual scenes,and creates a mechanism for dialogue in cultural field through spatial and temporal juxtaposition of Chinese and Western paintings’discourses.The rhetorical visual construction is subject to the conditions for periodical running at that time,but the localized visual improvement has achieved the Pictorial’s unique representation of“modernity”,which has made it more possible to investigate the relationship between the Pictorial’s visual form and its potential enlightenment reference.It not only deepens our rational cognition of Tienshihchai Pictorial’s political attributes,but also enlightens the ideological construction of contemporary visual culture.
