The Border City is Shen Congwen’s representative work and is rated as one of the top 100 Chinese novels of the 20^(th)century.The novel is set in the small border town between Sichuan and Hunan provinces in the 1930s,showing the unique cultural customs of western Hunan through beautiful love stories and vivid natural description,and drawing a vivid and pure picture of western Hunan.The writer uses skilled means of artistic expression to construct the metaphorical narrative from the changes of the world,the presentation of human images and the white pagoda along the stream,and shows the beautiful philosophy of life by using the beautiful description of love,and considers the human nature and morality under the tragedy.
