微言大义:申丹《双重叙事进程研究》对文学翻译的启示

The Profoundity of Subtle Words:Dan Shen's A Study of Dual Narrative Progression and Its Implications for Literary Translation

申丹在《双重叙事进程研究》中发现,“隐性进程”与情节发展在不少文本中并列前行,形成复杂的互动关系。从这一角度切入理论建构,她的研究见解独到。“隐性进程”或“双重叙事进程”机制的发现的确有助于阐释者识别文本中的“暗流”,使阐释臻于精准。本文认为,翻译界可以“场外征用”申丹此种理论,将其引入文学翻译与教学。毕竟,文本的解码是叙事学与翻译的共同课题,类似思维方式的借用亦是题中之意。译者不妨引入“隐性进程”新思维,探讨特定时空中文本的理解与阐释方案,以期促进文学翻译事业。

Shen Dan in her recent work A Study of Dual Narrative Progression systematically delineates her discovery of the covert progression or dual narrative progression,a breakthrough in narratology.According to Shen,this progression,often paralleling the overt plot,causes intricate interactions within and beyond the text.The mechanics of the covert progression is deemed conducive to translation and explication,especially when the translator or explicator encounters philological,linguistic,and/or sociosemiotic undercurrents in the disguise of understatements,innuendos,allusions...Inspired by Shen's discovery,the present author proposes that translators and instructors of literature in their work may partially,and even in a seemingly farfetched way apply her theory,or the logic of it,as a"theory cited off-site",for narratology,translation,and literary appreciation all aim to decode messages.As a novel concept and mode of textual analysis,dual narrative progression will hopefully broaden the elucidator's horizon,and eventually enhance literary translation.
