托马斯·品钦在《万有引力之虹》中将“后现代困境”予以主题化和戏剧化。它通过对西方后现代社会典型病象的百科全书式观照、讽喻式书写和末日追寻叙事,从本体论和认识论视角审视存在与意义日益断裂的西方后现代“存在之痛”,演绎“合成”和“控制”这两种隐形的权力手段在西方后现代政治与经济领域的双重运作机制,由此发出末日灾变警示,并基于“人类命运共同体”的救世情怀探求人性完整和精神超越的救赎之光。
Gravity's Rainbow is basically Thomas Pynchon's thematized dramatization of the postmodern predicament.By means of encyclopedic narration,allegoric representation and apocalyptic quest,the novelist diagnoses the typical maladies of postmodern reality and examines,at both ontological and epistemological levels,the postmodernist pain of existence caused by the broadening split or disjunction of existence and meaning in the western society.More importantly,this quest novel exposes the sinister operations of power in terms of intricately plotted“synthesis”and“control”leading to human's imminent self-destruction.Such apocalyptic vision thus inspires the sense of a community with shared future and the consequent quest for universal redemption based on total souls and spiritual transcendence.
