Werckmeister Harmóniák is the masterpiece of famous Hungarian director Bela Tarr.The film takes its unique long-shot style to the extreme,presenting a minimalist style.But there exists a deeper meaning about the film,in which the whale is the belief about life and history that runs through the film.Through the combination of many images and symbols,the film reflects the relationship among people,society and history,and constitutes a metaphor relating to history and reality.This paper explores the director's questioning of the continuous violence and killing and his sympathy for the underclass who have lost their names and voices through the analysis of many images in Werckmeister Harmóniák.
