The Problem of Translating the Terminology of Chinese Literary Thoughts and Its Solution Under the Background of“Going out”

中西方在文化基底和运思方式、文学创作、研究传统以及作为思维和表达载体的语言文字方面存在的差异,造成了中国文论术语译介的困境。当代美国汉学家宇文所安在前人的基础上探索出一套从理念到方法再到技巧都颇具特色的解决策略,对于如何让中国文化中具有思想深度的内容克服语言、文化的双重障碍“走出去”,以及如何对中华优秀传统文化进行创造性转化和创新性发展等问题,都具有启示作用。

To translate the terminology of Chinese literary thoughts is a challenging task due to the distinctions of cultural background,of literary tradition as well as of the language which serves as the instrument of thinking and expressing between China and the West.Based on predecessors’theories and practices,Steven Owen,a contemporary American Sinologist,has found out an effective way to solve this problem.His creative ideas,methods and skills may play a positive role in promoting the profound part of Chinese culture to“go out”through overcoming linguistic and cultural obstacles and in creative transformation as well as innovative development of the excellent Chinese traditional culture.
