To explore the impact of factor misallocation at the municipal level of the high-quality development of agricultural ecology in major grain producing areas, spatial econometric models were used to analyze the panel data from 154 prefecture-level cities from 2004 to 2020.The results showed that the factor misallocation at the municipal level had been continuously decreasing, while the level of high-quality development of agricultural ecology had improved, and both had spatial differences. The inhibitory effect of factor misallocation on the high-quality development of agricultural ecology in local and adjacent cities had spatiotemporal heterogeneity, and this conclusion remained robust after a series of tests. The mechanism test found that agricultural industry upgrading could weaken the negative impact of factor misallocation on the highquality development of agricultural ecology, but agricultural science and technology progress strengthened this negative impact and had non-linear characteristics. The conclusion enriched the theoretical literature on the influencing factors of high-quality agricultural ecological development, and provided empirical references for correcting factor misallocation and formulating policies for high-quality agricultural development.
