In the middle and late Ming Dynasty,Lin Chaoxi from Songkou in Meixian County,was one of the important representatives of the armed groups of"both pirates and merchants".In historical records and related studies,there are quite different opinions about Lin Chaoxi,such as"pirate","Sea merchant","rebellion leaders"and so on.It reflects the background of Lin Chaoxi and the different positions of the writer.Analyzing this background and evaluation logic will help us to understand Lin Chaoxi more objectively and comprehensively.As China pushes forward the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiative,we should further study the unique value and significance of Lin Chaoxi and his group.
