The Characteristics and Style Types of Modern Warlord Mansions in Southwest China

军阀统治是西南近代历史上的重要时期。西南近代军阀和高级将领在驻防城镇和家乡建造的居住类公馆,主要有合院式、外廊式、洋房式三类,由于样式传播的源头不同,受外来建筑材料、风格、技术的影响不同,因而形成不同地域军阀公馆流行类型和特征的差异。军阀公馆建筑风格的选择,反映了当时社会主要矛盾的变化,也受军阀自身观念的影响。

The warlord governance was an important period in the modern history of Southwest China.The residential buildings built by warlords and senior generals in garrisoned towns or hometowns in southwest China mainly include three types:courtyard style,veranda style mansions,and western-villa style.Due to the different sources of style dissemination and the influence of foreign building materials,styles,and technologies,there are differences in the popular types and characteristics of warlord mansions in different regions.The choice of architectural style for the warlord mansions reflected the changes in the main contradictions of society at that time and was also influenced by the warlord's own ideas.
