Technological Diversification,Absorptive Capacity and Innovation Performance

将吸收能力和知识网络结构嵌入纳入技术多元化与创新绩效关系的研究框架中,利用生物技术领域的企业数据,研究技术多元化对创新绩效的影响机制。研究发现,技术多元化有利于创新绩效提升,相关技术多元化、不相关技术多元化与创新绩效的关系分别呈正向和倒U形关系。技术多元化通过影响企业现实吸收能力及潜在吸收能力对创新绩效起作用。知识网络结构嵌入对技术多元化、不相关技术多元化与创新绩效间关系具有显著的正向调节效应,而对相关技术多元化与创新绩效关系的调节效应不显著。结论对于企业技术多元化战略选择、吸收能力提升机制设计和创新知识网络构建与优化都有一定的参考价值。

This paper explores the effect and mechanism of technological diversification on innovation performance from the perspective of absorptive capacity.Based on the correlation between technologies,technological diversification is divided into related and unrelated technology diversification.Then we examine the asymmetric relationship between different dimensions of technological diversification and innovation performance,with a focus on the moderating effect of knowledge network embedding.The empirical results reveal that technological diversification has a positive effect on innovation performance,The relationship between related technological diversification and innovation performance is positive,the unrelated technological diversification has an inverted U-shaped effect on innovation performance.Additionally,we find that the knowledge network embeddedness moderates the relationship between technological diversity,unrelated technological diversity and innovation performance,but the moderating effect on the relationship between related technology diversity and innovation performance is not significant.Furthermore,we show that technological diversification promotes innovation performance by stimulating the actual absorptive capacity and potential absorptive capacity of the organization.These results not only enrich the research on resource endowment theory and knowledge network embedding theory,but also provide important managerial implications for implementing technological diversification to foster organizations'innovation performance.
