摘要
身处后殖民社会的澳大利亚人不仅受到“文化自卑”的影响,还一直被“生物自卑”情结所困扰。作为高度关注环保和热爱自然的诗人,朱迪思·赖特不间断地创作过一些以火焰树、桉树、合欢树等本土树木为题的美丽诗篇。火焰树诗歌继承和发展了浪漫主义诗歌传统,摒弃了“生物自卑”中的羞耻感,歌颂了火焰树的美丽与生命力。桉树书写批判了“生物自卑”中以爱国自居的趾高气扬。赖特主张讨论澳大利亚国民性格和民族意识时,敬畏并吸收桉树象征的本土特性和土著文化。合欢树书写蕴含东方传统文化中的生态智慧,传递着共建和谐共生地球生命共同体的生态理念。赖特的本土树木书写体现了生死转换、生生不息、合一同源的生命哲学,促使人类不断反思自身与其他生命形式的关系。
Living in a postcolonial society,Australians have been affected by a sense of“cultural cringe”and bothered by a complex about“biological cringe”as well.Judith Wright,a poet who cares so much about environment and loves nature,has continuously wrtten beautiful poems about native trees,such as flame tree,eucalyptus,and wattle.Her poems on flame trees inherit and develop the tradition of romantic poetry,abandon the sense of shame in“biological cringe”,and eulogize the beau-ty and vitality of flame trees.Her writing about eucalyptus criticizes the arrogance under the cloak of patriotism in“biological cringe”.Wright advocates respecting and absorbing the indigenous characteristics and aboriginal culture symbolized by the eu-calyptus when discussing Australian national character and national consciousness.Her poems on wattle trees contain the eco-logical wisdom in the traditional oriental culture and share the ecological concept of building a harmonious and symbiotic com-munity of life on earth.Wright's representation of native trees not only embodies her philosophy of life regarding the cycle,perpetuality,unity,and homology in life,but also prompts human beings to constantly reflect on their relationship with other lifeforms.
