Adherence and Adaptation:Design Analysis of the China Merchants Office Building in Nanjing

本文基于建筑学专业的自主性特征,以南京招商局办公楼为研究对象,结合历史资料与最近的结构检测信息,从场地与方位、功能与布局、结构与空间三个层面展开设计分析,释读杨廷宝应对具体专业问题的处理方法和技巧,探析其背后蕴含的基本观念和立场,借此引出并探讨有关他的建筑学遗产的三个重要议题,以期更好地理解他在“恪守与应变”持续张力下的现代建筑探索之路。

Starting with the autonomous character of architectural profession,this paper takes the China Merchants Office Building in Nanjing as the research object,combining historical materials and the latest information on structural detection,carries out design analysis from three aspects:site and orientation,program and composition,structure and space,interprets YANG Tingbao’s approach and skills in dealing with specific professional issues,and explores the basic concepts and positions behind them,thereby drawing out and discussing three important issues in his architectural heritage in order to better understand his exploration of modern architecture under the continuous tension between adherence and adaptation.
