The Cloven Viscount is the most representative postmodern fable novel of Italian writer Calvino.In the wake of the war,the protagonist,Viscount Medaldo,entered the threshold and became a threshold person,who had to face the collapse of social relations and the loss of self identity.The novel describes Medaldo’s struggle and self-rescue in the threshold,trying to find a way of self-healing for the lost people represented by Medaldo who are eroded and separated by reality.The novel contains a profound social and historical dimension and reflects the writer’s thinking on the issue of individual identity in the context of modernity.
