Optimizing Shanghai's Global Impact: Insights fromthe China International lmport Expo

中国国际进口博览会承担着贸易交流、投资交流、外交交流、创意交流的多重功能,以上海作为重要节点,构建了连接中国和世界的多重网络,成为全球共享的国际公共产品。进博会持续放大的溢出效应对上海全球城市地位产生了深远影响。针对进博会服务贸易参展商网络研究后发现:新冠疫情爆发期间,进博会的全球参展商网络密度出现明显下降。新冠疫情后,第五届进博会的网络密度相对2021年出现了明显改善,但还远没有恢复到新冠疫情爆发前水平。为更好地发挥进博会平台功能和溢出效应以提升上海的全球城市地位,本文提出几点建议:一是降低参展厂商的参展成本,二是协助参展商获得更多订单,三是提高进博会交易信息透明度,四是展示巨大消费市场稳住外资及其总部。

The China Internat ional Import Expo(CIIE)serves as a pivotal platform for global trade,investment,diplomacy,and innovat ion,strategically positioning Shanghai as a vital hub.CIIE has successfully forged multiple networks,conecting China with the global community and positioning itself as an internationally shared public product.This study,focusing on the trade in services exhibitor network at CIIE,reveals a not iceable decline in global exhibitor network density during the 0OVID19 pandemic.The post-pandemic 5th Expo,held in October 2022,has shown improvement in network density,and yet has not fully recovered to pre-pandemic levels.To bolster Shanghai's global city status through CIIE,we suggest a few strategic measures.First,consider lowering the participation costs for exhibitors.Second,extend support to exhibitors,aiding them in securing more orders.Third,prioritize the enhancement of trade information transparency at CIIE.I astly,spotlighting the expansive consumer market becomes pivotal for stabilizing foreign investment and drawing in corporate headquarters.
