How Can Isolation Become a Treatment?:A Study on the Medical Behaviors of Inpatients with Alcohol Dependence Syndrome at L Hospital

在医学人类学背景下,关注酒精依赖住院患者的非医学治疗。基于对8位在精神病院内住院的酒精依赖患者的深度访谈发现,在酒精依赖患者眼里,医学手段似乎并不能治疗自己的“疾病”,真正的治疗反而是住院隔离本身。通过对住院隔离治疗三个层次:与酒隔离、与环境隔离、与家属隔离的划分,展现了酒精依赖患者的疾病观:被当作一种生活方式的酒精依赖。而患者在被确诊后的住院就医行为,则体现了患者如何平衡个人和社会责任之间的策略。

In the context of medical anthropology,this article focuses on the non-medical treatment of inpatients with alcohol dependence.Based on in-depth interviews with 8 alcohol dependence patients hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital,it was found that in the eyes of individuals with alcohol dependence,medical interventions do not seem to effectively treat their"illness",and the real treatment is actually hospitalization isolation itself.This research delves into three levels of isolation therapy:isolation from alcohol,isolation from the environment,and isolation from family members.It sheds light on the perspective of individuals with alcohol dependence,viewing their conditions as a lifestyle rather than a conventional illness.The hospitalization behavior of patients after being diagnosed reflects their strategies of balancing personal and societal responsibility.
