Chen Yuan not only was a historian and educator,but also edited a number of newspapers and magazines,contributing to the dissemination of science and culture in China.In his early years,he was in charge of the Current Affairs Pictorial,the Aurora Daily News,the Medical and Health Newspaper,the Guanghua Medical and Health Journal,which enlightened the public and promoted medical development and social progress.In his middle age,he edited the Palimpsest Series which prompted the publication of the archives of Ming and Qing,and the Fu Ren Xue Zhi,which provided a platform for academic and cultural exchanges between the East and the West.In his later years,he participated in the editing of a number of publications.Chen Yuan encouraged cultural exchanges and academic debates in his editorial work,paying attention to the social influence of newspapers in spreading knowledge,and focused on the reading experience of readers and editors’communication with readers.Chen Yuan’s editorial work is characterized by a close connection with research and reflects his consistent patriotic belief.
