Liaodong Officers and Soldiers in the Early Days of the Renchen War

壬辰战初,朝鲜溃败,明廷遣辽东副总兵祖承训领兵驰援。首次平壤战役虽以辽东官兵惨败而收场,但对后续军事行动乃至明廷整体战略策划影响深远。结合中外史料,梳理首批辽东官兵的来源、规模及赴朝进程等内容,分析平壤战役中明军的具体表现,以期客观评述平壤战役的历史作用及辽东官兵的历史贡献。

At the beginning of the Renchen War, Korea was defeated, which made the Ming government dispatch deputycommander-in-chief Zu Chengxun's troops to help Korea. In the first battle of Pyongyang, the army of Liaodong suffered adisastrous defeat by the Japanese, but it had a profound influence on the subsequent military actions and the overall strategicplanning of the Ming government. In combination with Chinese and foreign historical materials, this paper introduces the sourceand scale of the first batch of Liaodong officers and soldiers and the process of going to Korea, analyzes the specific performanceof the Liaodong army in the battle, so as to objectively comment on the historical role of the battle of Pyongyang and the historicalcontributions of Liaodong officers and soldiers.
