The Dingjiafan site is located to the east of the Dingjiafan Village in Wanshan Town,Lujiang County of Anhui Province. It consists of five man-built platforms.Archaeological excavations have confirmed it was a large settlement in the Western Zhou dynasty, functioning as a residential area,a production center, and a transportation hub.Eight tombs dating to the Western Zhou period were excavated at the Tuandun site, and they shared similar burial forms, artifactual combinations, and pottery characteristics with the shaft pit tombs of the mid-Western Zhou period discovered at Zhangjiapo in Chang'an of Shaanxi Province, presumably suggesting their identity as the Zhou people. We argue that the Dingjiafan site may be related to the military, political, and transportation hub established by the kings of the Central Plains for strategizing in the southern region and maintaining the north-south communication known as Jindao Xihang(Copper-Tin Road).
