元初的民族关系思想主要有“行中国之道则中国之主”“行汉法可长久”“天下一家”和“因俗而治”等理论观点。元初民族关系思想及其实践活动,不仅对元代的发展与巩固发挥了重要作用,而且对中华民族共同体的发展与巩固也产生了重要作用,主要体现在四个方面:一是文化正统思想对中华民族共同体的发展提供了动力;二是“行汉法可长久”思想对中华民族共同体的发展提供了凝聚力;三是“天下一家”的大一统思想对中华民族共同体的发展提供了基础;四是“因俗而治”思想对各民族的交往交流交融提供了保障。
