语料库视域下的《孙子兵法》多译本译者风格研究

Study on Translators'Styles of Different English Versions of The Art of War from the Perspective of Corpus

作为中国经典军事著作,《孙子兵法》有着巨大的国际影响力。运用语料库研究方法,选取《孙子兵法》三个英译本,即格里菲斯译本、林戊荪译本和翟林奈译本作为语料自建语料库,利用在线对齐工具Tmxmall、语料库检索软件WordSmith4.0和CUC_Paraconc等语料分析工具对三人译本进行统计和量化分析,从词汇、句子和语篇三个维度对三人的翻译风格进行对比研究。最后得出结论:格译的句式简单,词汇难度更大;林译多用长句,保留了原作的文学性;翟译的词汇更丰富,逻辑显化程度更高。格译第一人称的使用频率更高,译本感染力强;林译和翟译叙事多用第二、三人称,表达更加客观。

The Art of War is one of the ancient Chinese classical military works,and has great influence at home and abroad.This paper chooses three English versions of The Art of War,which are respectively translated by Samuel B.Griffith,Lin Wusun and Lionel Giles as the research subjects and establishes a comparative corpus with the assistance of Tmxmall,WordSmith4.O and CUC_Paraconc to compare the differences of the three translators'styles from the perspective of vocabulary,sentence and text.It turns out that simple sentence structures and complicated words are preferred in Griffith's version;Lin Wusun chooses long sentences in order to recreate the literariness of the original text;the vocabulary used in Giles'version is more abundant and the internal logic is much manifested.The first person is used more frequently in Griffith's version in order to broaden its appeal,while Lin Wusun and Lionel Giles use the second and third person so that the translation is more objective.
