Knowledge Production and Debate on Frontiers and Frontier Issues in the 1930s and 1940s

20世纪三四十年代,中国处于国家民族危亡之际,时代所需促成学人对于边疆及边疆问题的广泛探讨,他们热衷于边疆考察实践且聚焦边疆建设,一番论争奠定了近代边疆知识生产的基础。这一时期对于边疆、边疆问题及治理边疆的一系列探讨,呈现出在承继传统边疆认知、掺入西方边疆话语基础上充满时代性的本土化认知倾向,既延续传统认知,以“文化的边疆”为核心统合边疆知识体系,又基于时代特性,拓展、更新、深化了边疆论题。基于边疆特性,立足于国家整合、摆脱边疆危机的各类边疆探讨及策略,夹杂着夷夏之辨、传统与时代观念之辩,同时呈现出近代边疆知识生产的脉络及趋向。

In the 1930s and 1940s,when China was in national penil,the need of the era prompted scholars to di scuss fronties and frontier isuese extensively.They were keen on frontier investigation and practice and focused on frontier construction.Consequently,some debates laid the foundation of knowledge production in moderm fonties.I this period,a series of discussions on fronties,front ier ises and frontier governance showed a trend of localized eognition full of times on the basis of inheriting taditional fontier cognition and inorporating Westem frontier discourse.which not only eon-tinued taditional cognition and integrated frontier knowledge system with"culural frontier"a the core,but also expanded,updated and deepened frontier topics based on the characteristics of times.According to the chanacteristics of the frontier,various frontier discussions and strategies looted in the integration of the country and gtting rid of the crisis of the froutiers were mixed with the debate on the barharian and the Chinese,tradition and the concept of times,and thus presented the context and trend of knowledge production in the modern frontiers.
