A Study on the Influencing Factors of Families' Educational Choice of University in the UK

英国工人阶级家庭和中产阶级家庭在高等教育选择过程中表现出不同的偏好与特点。研究以阶级视角切入,分析英国工人阶级和中产阶级家庭的大学教育选择过程,探究影响英国家庭大学教育选择的影响因素。研究发现:英国家庭在大学教育选择过程中没有过多考虑高等教育成本、债务压力和经济支持,而是普遍受到社会流动和阶级地位的影响,其中英国工人阶级家庭强调高等教育作为社会流动手段的功能性,英国中产阶级家庭强调高等教育作为维持阶级地位手段的必要性。此外,英国工人阶级家庭的大学教育选择受到地理因素、职业考量和薪资需求的影响。相反,英国中产阶级家庭的大学教育选择不受地理因素、职业考量和薪资需求的影响,能为子女提供更为广泛的区位资本,具有较高的地域流动性。

Working class families and middle-class families in the UK show different preferences and characteristics in the process of choosing higher education.From the perspective of class,the study analyzes the process of university education selection of working class and middle class families in the UK,and explores the influencing factors of families'educational choice of university.The study finds that British families do not consider the cost of higher education,debt pressure and economic support too much in the process of educational choice of university,but are generally affected by social mobility and class status.Among them,working class families in the UK emphasize the functionality of higher education as a means of social mobility,while middle-class families in the UK emphasize the necessity of higher education as a means of maintaining class status.In addition,the educational choice of university of working class families in the UK is influenced by geographical factors,occupational considerations and wage demands.On the contrary,the educational choice of university of middle-class families in the UK is not affected by geographical factors,career considerations and salary demands,they can provide more extensive regional capital for children,with high regional mobility.
