摘要
汉学家中国文学外译将汉学研究与翻译实践相结合,体现了学术型翻译的主要特征,受到学界越来越多的关注。陶渊明诗歌英译自19世纪末期开始,至今已有10余部陶诗译本问世,其中美国汉学家海陶玮翻译的全译本《陶潜诗集》是西方图书馆藏量最大、影响最广的陶诗英译单行本,为后来的陶诗译介与研究提供了重要参考。本文在对学术型翻译进行再诠释的基础上,深入探讨海陶玮译本能够成为学术型翻译典范之作的原因,分析译者学术型翻译的主要特征,论述译本在西方学界的接受情况,以期为今后陶诗及古典诗歌英译提供新的启示。
The translation of Chinese literature by sinologists combines sinological research with translation practice,which reflects the main characteristics of scholarly translation and has attracted increasing attention from the academia.The English translation of Tao Yuanming s poetry began in the late 19 th century,and more than ten versions of Tao s poetry have been published so far.Among them,the complete annotated translation The Poetry of T ao Ch ien by American sinologist James R.Hightower is the most influential and boasts the largest collection by Western libraries,which provides an important reference for the later translation and research of Tao Yuanming.Based on the reinterpretation of scholarly translation,this paper deeply explores the reasons why Hightower s version becomes an exemplary text of scholarly translation,analyzes the main characteristics of the translator s academic pattern and translation style,and discusses the reception of the version in Western academic circles.
