Fathoming Translation as Discursive Experience:Theory and Application Theory and Practice written by Zhu Chunshen,innovatively puts forward a theoretical framework known as the“structure of meaning”(SOM)based on the systemic functional grammar of Halliday and the theory of speech acts of Austin.The book thoroughly examines SOM from three dimensions:compositional,interactional,and experiential.Through case studies,key concepts such as translation units,transitivity,leitmotif,and syntactic iconicity are elaborated upon,aiming to construct a methodology rooted in SOM and discursive experience.The important significance of this book lies in its reassessment of the linguistic approach to translation studies and its exploration of a pioneering methodology,which is a unique theoretical model called“Close Reading-SOM-Cultural Cognitive Embodiment”,which greatly benefits the research of a linguistic methodology system for translation studies.
