With the development of medical technology, the elderly are ushering in the age of centenarians. As a result, the home life cycle of the elderly has consequently become longer, and space for the elderly to spend time outdoors has become particularly important. However, due to the limited capacity of the community, most communities do not have the conditions to expand the space for elderly activities. Therefore, this paper investigates and analyses the transformation strategies of community surplus spaces, aiming to provide diverse outdoor activity spaces for the elderly by integrating and utilising fragmented surplus spaces in the community. The results of the study indicate that different surplus spaces such as shaped, rooftop and low utilisation exist in most communities for outdoor activities for older people. This study has value and significance on a number of levels, including older adults, the economy, and sustainable development.
