Unsaturated fatty acids are mainly found in plant seeds, vegetable oils and marine fish with high oil content.Unsaturated fatty acids are abundant in nature and play an important role in human beings by tonifying brain, improving immunomodulation and fighting combat cardiovascular disease. In ruminant production, diets that rich in unsaturated fatty acids have the function of improving ruminant performance, reducing methane emission and improving the quality of animal products. This paper mainly summarized the effects of unsaturated fatty acids on ruminant performance, rumen fermentation and methane emission for the aim to provide reference for the research and application of UFA in ruminant nutrition.
