In Ben Jelloun’s L’Homme Rompu that wins the French Mediterranean Literature Prize,the disease images of it are metaphors for the ethical confusion of a corrupt country and the ethical anxiety of the protagonist Mourad.The corrupt system of Morocco and its harm are illustrated by pestilence and insects.The mental and physical illness of Mourad who is a minor official,coincides with his ethical anxiety before and after taking bribes.Mourad's fall from the righteous to the corrupt symbolizes Morocco's national crisis.The contradiction between his moral purification and the corrupt environment that remains unchanged contains the author's serious thinking about the long and arduous struggle against corruption in Morocco,and highlights the ethical teaching function of literature.
