A study on the Word Order Habits and Semantics of Adjectives as Attributive Modifiers of Nouns

对英语中某些形容词做定语的语序及语义进行了分类归纳,总结出做定语修饰名词前置与后置在语义上有细微差别的形容词及某些形容词在与名词构成固定短语的位置要求,并对形容词做定语修饰名词时的语义异指现象进行了说明。

This paper classifies and generalizes the word orders and semantics of some adjectives serving as attributive in English.And it also gives some adjectives whose meanings are slightly different when they modify nouns as attributives in different positions(before nouns or after them)and the position requirements of some adjectives when forming fixed phrases with nouns.This paper also explains the phenomenon of structurally an English adjective being used to modify the central component while semantically used to describe the other component in the sentence or the context.
