Mediating Effect of Gratitude on Pain Perception

目的探究疼痛背景下感激情绪是否影响了疼痛知觉,以及感激情绪对疼痛知觉的调节机制。方法2023年5—7月招募了深圳某大学的75名大学生参与多轮疼痛刺激实验。为了制造高感激情绪条件和低感激情绪条件,被试首先得知匿名伙伴是否决定分担施加于被试的电刺激强度,伙伴的决定实际上并不影响被试最后接收到的电刺激强度,被试在整个实验中只接受两种强度的电刺激;随后,被试报告刺激前的不愉悦度和疼痛预期,在接受电刺激之后,对电刺激的疼痛强度和不愉悦度进行评估;最后,被试还需表达他们对该轮匿名伙伴的感激程度。结果对于疼痛强度评分以及不愉悦度评分,低感激条件下的评分高于高感激条件下的评分(P<0.05),且刺激前不愉悦度和疼痛预期在感激条件对疼痛强度的调控过程中发挥了完全中介作用。结论本研究发现感激情绪通过影响个体的情绪状态和疼痛预期对疼痛知觉进行调节,该发现为心理学和医学领域的疼痛管理理论提供了重要见解。

Objective To explore whether gratitude affects pain perception under conditions of pain,and the regulatory mechanism of gratitude on pain perception.Methods From May to July 2023,75 college students from a university in Shenzhen were recruited to participate in multiple rounds of pain stimulation experiments.To induce high and low gratitude emotional conditions,participants were informed whether the anonymous partner had decided to share the intensity of electric stimulation applied to them.The partner's decision did not actually affect the intensity of the electric stimulation received by the participants,who experienced only two levels of electric stimulation throughout the experiment.Subsequently,participants reported their displeasure and pain expectations before stimulation.After receiving the electric stimulation,they assessed the intensity and displeasure of the pain.Finally,participants expressed their gratitude towards the anonymous partner for that round.Results For both pain intensity and displeasure ratings,scores under low gratitude conditions were significantly higher than those under high gratitude conditions(P<0.05).Pre-stimulation displeasure and pain expectations played a complete mediating role in the regulation of pain intensity by gratitude conditions.Conclusion This study discovered that gratitude emotions modulate pain perception by influencing individual emotional states and pain expectations.This finding provides important insights for the pain management theories in the fields of psychology and medicine.
