Emotional Regulation Processes in Entrepreneurship:Based on Affective Events Theory

创业会经历情绪过山车,创业者的情绪调节是创业成功的关键。然而,现有创业研究对情绪调节的关注较少,碎片化的研究导致情绪调节难以发展为一个有前景的研究领域。本文对创业中情绪调节的研究进行系统梳理发现:从情绪调节内涵来看,研究将情绪调节作为一种结构性的特质或能力而非过程;从情绪调节与创业的关系来看,主要聚焦于特质观或能力观,且两种视角的研究相互割裂,难以建立起创业中情绪调节的整合框架。鉴于此,本文尝试引入过程视角,在对情绪调节进行重新概念化基础上,基于情感事件理论,以情绪调节的过程观为核心,整合特质观和能力观构建创业中的情绪调节过程模型。基于该模型,本文提出情绪调节在创业研究中的前沿主题。

Entrepreneurship is experienced as an emotional roller coaster.Entrepreneurs’regulation of emotion can promote entrepreneurship success.However,the research on the relationship between entrepreneurship and emotion regulation is still scarce.A review of the entrepreneurship literature on emotion regulation highlights two key characteristics.First,emotion regulation is conceptualized as a structural trait or ability rather than a process.Second,studies based on the trait view and the ability view are separated from each other,with little or no cross-citation among these streams of research.In this regard,we reconceptualize emotional regulation from a process perspective and build an emotional regulation process model in entrepreneurship based on Affective Events Theory(AET).This model focuses on the process of emotion regulation and integrates the trait view and ability view of emotion1 regulation.Based on this model,we solve the following three problems.First of all,through establishing the integrated relationship between the process view,ability view and trait view of emotional regulation,that is,the integration of trait view and process view,ability view and process view,so as to make up for the problem of the separation of existing studies.Secondly,with the process view as the core,the model reveals the dynamic relationship between emotion regulation and entrepreneurship,and then reveals the essence of entrepreneurship process from the perspective of emotion.Finally,by emphasizing the importance of entrepreneurial context,the model can explain the ambivalence of emotion regulation,that is,the influence of emotion regulation on entrepreneurship is not absolutely positive or negative,but depends on the context,and thus provide richer and more accurate insights into the mechanism of emotion regulation’s influence on entrepreneurial outcomes.The current research makes the following theoretical contributions.First of all,existing entrepreneurial studies regard emotional reg-ulation as a structural trait or ability,ignoring the entrepreneurial context and process orientation,and failing to reveal the dynamic and complexity of emotional regulation in entrepreneurial studies.By introducing the process view of emotion regulation,the study takes it as the emotional response process to adapt to the entrepreneurial situation,and explores a new path for the study of emotion regulation in the entrepreneurial situation.At the same time,it complements the trait view and the ability view,and systematically re-veals the connotation and essence of emotional regulation in entrepreneurship.Secondly,the prior research on emotion regulation of trait view and ability view is separated from each other,and it is difficult to establish an integrated framework of emotion regulation,which hinders the in-depth development of emotion regulation in the field of entrepreneurship.Based on the emotional event theory,we takes the process view of emotional regulation as the core,and integrates the trait view and the ability view to establish the emo-tional regulation process model in entrepreneurship,systematically reveal the characteristics of the emotional regulation process in entrepreneurship,and make contributions to expanding the emotional research in the field of entrepreneurship.
