"Connection and Separation":The Bridges in South of the Yangtze River and Shaping of Urban Meaning Space

“桥”在修建之初就与人发生了勾连,进而从人的意志层面显现到城市的现实生活中。江南水乡的桥梁尤是如此:“筑桥”的民间话语与官方话语在此融合、统一,人力、资金、信息、事件甚至传说故事、仪式民俗在此汇聚,诸多网络都围绕着桥交织在一起。一座座桥在日常生活中起到连接、转换、区隔的作用,记录着城市历史变迁,并成为区域交往网络的重要节点。研究基于平均每平方公里有桥31座的绍兴,把江南之“桥”与媒介之“桥”并置于特定的历史地理空间:不仅聚焦于桥本身和空间视角的桥,也关注纵向时间中桥梁的修建缘起到维系交通再到嵌入城市、如何勾连与构建相关意义网络的一系列活动;同时提出“桥”之于江南的精神意义在于超越地域性地在可见性生产中帮助人们建立与城市的归属感与认同感。

At the outset of their construction,bridges connect people and gradually integrate into the fabric of urban life,particularly evident in the water villages south of the Yangtze River.Here,folk narratives of"Building Bridges"merge with official discourse,serving as focal points where human resources,funds,information,events,legends,and folk customs converge.Bridges serve as conduits for connection,transformation,and division in daily life,recording the historical evolution of cities and becoming vital nodes in regional communication networks.Focusing on Shaoxing,renowned for its high density of bridges,this research situates the"bridges"and the"media bridges"within a specific historical and geographical context.It not only examines bridges from a spatial perspective but also delves into their historical evolution,from serving transportation needs to becoming integral components of urban infrastructure.Moreover,the study highlights the role of bridges in maintaining and constructing a network of interconnected meanings.It posits that the spiritual significance of bridges in this part of China lies in fostering a sense of belonging and identity with the city,transcending regional boundaries through visible manifestations of collective production.
