In The Concept of Truth in Formalized Languages,Tarski first proposed the semantic theory of truth.Tarski’s semantic theory of truth had a profound impact on philosophy and logic in the mid-to-late twentieth century.However,the philosophical aspects of Tarski’s semantic theory of truth have been controversial.For the ninetieth anniversary edition of The Concept of Truth in Formalized Languages,by revealing the theoretical positioning,highlighting the philosophical contributions,and responding to the philosophical controversy,it helps us to further reflect on the philosophical implications of Tarski’s semantic theory of truth.In terms of theoretical positioning,Tarski’s semantic theory of truth is both a formal theory and a philosophical doctrine;In terms of philosophical contributions,Tarski’s semantic theory of truth promoted the“Semantic Revolution”and opened the“Tarskian Turn”;In terms of philosophical controversy,Tarski’s semantic theory of truth is not philosophically sterile,but philosophically sound.With the deepening of researches around“truth”,the philosophical implications of Tarski’s semantic theory of truth will become increasingly prominent.
