年谱是史籍中较为特殊的一种人物传记体裁。作为人物年谱的一个类别,出版家年谱在出版史料的搜集整理和研究中占有重要地位。以出版家为谱主的年谱编撰者有三类,即作者自撰,谱主的朋友、门生和子孙所撰,后世学者撰写。以上三类各有其利弊得失,做到内容丰富、考订精详并非易事。出版家年谱的编制体例,既有专谱、通谱,也有合谱。编写纯而又纯的职业出版家年谱相对容易把握,而更多属于身份多重的“兼职”出版家,其年谱编撰需要有明确定位和叙述边界。出版家合谱不等于合刊,其中的区别需要厘清。在实际编撰工作中,编写者还需要注重将史料性与研究性结合,处理好实事求是与为尊者讳的关系,同时更加重视书信和日记等史料在年谱编撰中的重要作用。

Chronicle is a special historical genre of biography and publisher chronicle as a biographical category plays an important role in the collection,sorting and study of historical records of publishing.The three types of chronicle compilers include publisher autobiographer,the friend(s),disciple(s)and descendant(s)of the publisher and lategeneration scholar(s).Chronicle of each type has its advantages and disadvantages,and it is no easy task to fulfil the richness and detailedness of the compilation.Chronicle can be compiled for a specific publisher on his publishing career or as a comprehensive account of certain aspects of his life,or for a group of publishers sharing certain common features on their publishing careers.For the publishers of multiple identities,their chronicle compilation require a clear positioning and more clarified narrative boundaries than that for the professional publishers of a single identity,the clarification that the chronicle for a group of publishers is far more than a mere combination of their respective chronicles,the combination of historical information and research-oriented value,the good coordination of objectivity and euphemistic cancellation for the sake of the respect for the honorable publisher and the importance attached to the historical materials such as letters and diaries.
