Drawing upon the author's extensive archaeological research experience in Xinjiang spanning over 60 years, this article delves into the period from 176 BC to 60 BC.It intricately explores the fascinating tales and political struggles that unfolded on the expansive terrain of East Asia, known as the Western Regions, during the conflict between the Western Han Empire and the Xiongnu regime. The indelible imprints of shadows and light they left on the landscape of Lop Nur and the northern fringes of the Kunlun Mountains serve as fragments of a forgotten history strewn across the Gobi Desert. This historical tapestry, rich with cultural nutrients, holds valuable lessons for our understanding. In recounting the history of the Western Regions,it is imperative not to overlook the scrolls of history that unfolded in the regions of Loulan and Shanshan.Their historical contributions played a significant role in shaping the intricate pattern of diversity in unity"within the Chinese nation.
