Translation strategies of culture-loaded expressions in English version of Jiangxi Cultural Symbols:Academy Culture

本文以《江西文化符号丛书·书院文化》为例,探讨了其中文化负载词的英译融通策略。通过双语对照分析,发现译者采用了直译、音译加释译、意译加释译、内容删减浓缩和源语文本改译等翻译融通策略。其中,直译能够保留源语文化的独特性,音译加释译和意译加释译能够弥补直译可能造成的文化误解,内容删减浓缩和源语文本改译满足了目标语读者的阅读修辞心理。此外,本文还指出了该书英译文中可能存在的部分问题,并对问题进行分析,为江西特色文化外译提供有益参考。

This thesis takes Jiangxi Cultural Symbols:Academy Culture as an example to explore the translation strategy of cultural-loaded expressions.The bilingual comparative analysis shows that the translator adopts translation integration strategies such as literal translation,transliteration plus interpretation,free translation plus interpretation,content reduction and concentration,and source text modification.Among them,literal translation can retain the uniqueness of the source language culture,transliteration plus interpretation and free translation plus interpretation can make up for the cultural misunderstanding caused by literal translation,and the content reduction and concentration and source text modification can satisfy the target readers’rhetoric psychology.In addition,this thesis also points out some possible problems in the English version of the book to analyze these problems to provide a useful reference for the foreign translation of cultural text with Jiangxi’s characteristics.
