Dao An’s Historical Contribution and Its Contemporary Inspiration:Focusing on the Adaptation of Buddhism to the Chinese Context

出生于今河北省衡水市冀州区的道安是南北朝时期著名高僧。道安的历史贡献不仅是在佛经翻译、佛经注释、佛经编纂、佛学义理、僧团管理等方面推动了佛教中国化的步伐,更主要在于开创了佛教中国化的基本格局。后世在道安所开创的基本格局下逐渐实现了佛教中国化的发展。这种开创性的历史贡献对于当今新时代中国特色社会主义文化建设与宗教中国化建设以及宗教管理制度化、法治化建设等皆具有重要的启示价值。

Born in Jizhou District,Hengshui City,Hebei Province,Dao An was a famous monk in the Southern and Northern Dynasties.His historical contribution is that he not only promoted the adaptation of Buddhism to the Chinese context in the aspects of Buddhist scripture translation,Buddhist scripture annotation,Buddhist scripture compilation,Buddhist teaching,monk group management,etc.,but also initiated the basic pattern of adapting Buddhism to the Chinese Context.Based on this pattern,later generations gradually realized the development of the adaptation of Buddhism to the Chinese context.This groundbreaking historical contribution has important inspiration for the building of a cultural sector with Chinese characteristics and the adaptation of religion to the Chinese context in the new era of our country,as well as the institutionalization and legalization of religious management.
