Objective:This study explores the application of problem-based learning(PBL)based on clinical cases in histology and embryology teaching. Methods:Two classes of students in clinical majors were selected. In addition to conventional face-to-face teaching, the experimental group in the first phase(Clinical One,2016 and 2017)was provided with 2 clinical case-based PBL sessions during self-study time, while the control group(Clinical Two,2016 and 2017)utilized the university's MO0C and high-quality shared resource courses for self-study.The second phase included students from Clinical One and Two(2018 and 2019),with 2 clinical case-based PBL sessions scheduled during self-study time, followed by a retrospective questionnaire survey. Results:The experimental group in the first phase showed significantly higher final exam scores than the control group(P<0.01),while there was no significant difference in scores in the second phase(P>0.05).The survey indicated that PBL teaching enhanced students'abilities in expression, communication, and self-directed learning, strengthening connections with other disciplines and facilitating subsequent medical course learning. Conclusion:PBL based on clinical cases not only improves students'academic performance but also cultivates their higher-order learning abilities.
