Repetitive Work Tasks and Labor Efficiency:An Empirical Study Based on Supermarket Cashiers

本研究利用2017-2019年的详细超市交易数据,专门探讨了重复性工作任务对员工劳动效率的多层影响。研究发现,在持续的现金交易环境中,收银员在现金凑整方面显示出显著的技能提升,表现为一种倒U型的学习曲线。然而,随着移动支付的普及,收银员处理现金的机会减少,导致其对凑整的短期记忆逐渐模糊,从而降低了其在这方面的熟练度。结果表明,频繁的非现金交易会大幅削减收银员在现金交易中成功进行凑整的概率。这一发现表明,虽然重复性任务可以提升劳动效率,但工作内容的变动也会对其产生显著影响。

This study utilizes detailed supermarket transaction data from 2017 to 2019 to specifically explore the multi-layered effects of repetitive work tasks on employee labor efficiency.The research finds that in a continuous cash transaction environment,cashiers demonstrate a significant skill improvement in cash rounding,manifesting as an inverted U-shaped learning curve.However,with the proliferation of mobile payments,the opportunities for cashiers to handle cash have decreased,leading to a gradual blurring of their short-term memory for rounding,thereby reducing their proficiency in this regard.The results indicate that frequent non-cash transactions substantially reduce the likelihood of cashiers success-fully rounding in cash transactions.This finding reveals that while repetitive tasks can enhance labor efficiency,changes in the nature of the work can also have a significant impact.
