Emotional Ideology of Wei Zheng:The Depiction of Empress Dugu’s Nation-impairing Emotions in the History of the Sui Dynasty

《隋书》是唐初意识形态建设的重要内容,它集修史、取鉴、资治于一体。唐初统治者认为,文帝的废长立幼是隋朝败亡的缘由,在魏征笔下,高颎的废黜、太子勇与晋王广的废立皆因情起,而这些情事的本源,则在独孤后的“誓无异生之子”与“性忌妾媵”,情在逻辑上成为隋亡祸本。《隋书》情为祸本思想受太宗一朝政治影响,更是魏征探索情感哲学的努力。宋明理学前,儒家情感思想尚未形成完整体系,对现实的指导更差强人意,士人纷纷从各自领域对情展开理论探索,魏征的情感认识就是其中的重要内容。唐代之前的情感史建立在文史哲、政治、现实交织的基础上;中国历史上的情感也走过了从中心到受摒、再到重新被认识的过程。赋正史以情感议题,《隋书》的政治史面貌或可得到改观。

The History of the Sui Dynasty holds significance in the ideological construction of early Tang Dynasty,integrating historical compilation,reference,and governance.Early Tang rulers attributed the downfall of the Sui Dynasty to Emperor Wen’s decision to depose his eldest son and enthrone his second son as crown prince.In Wei Zheng’s narrative,the dismissals of Gao Jiong,Crown Prince Yong,and others were all driven by emotions.These emotions originated from Empress Dugu’s commitment to“hav-ing no son by another”and her“aversion to concubines and maidservants”,forming the logical foundation for the calamity leading to the demise of the Sui Dynasty.The notion that emotions serve as the root cause of disasters in the History of the Sui Dynasty not only reflects the political influence of Emperor Taizong but also signifies Wei Zheng’s exploration of emotional philosophy.Prior to the emergence of Neo-Confucian-ism in the Song and Ming dynasties,Confucian emotional thought lacked a comprehensive theoretical framework and provided inadequate guidance for practical matters.Scholars delved into emotional explora-tion from diverse perspectives,and Wei Zheng’s comprehension of emotions constituted a significant as-pect of this endeavor.The emotional history preceding the Tang Dynasty was woven into the fabric of liter-ature,history,philosophy,politics,and reality.Emotions in Chinese history underwent a process of cen-trality,rejection,and eventual reevaluation.By introducing emotional themes into the History of the Sui Dynasty,the political history depicted in the text could undergo a transformative reevaluation.
