Louisa May Alcott’s ethics and morality are fully exemplified in her masterpiece“Little Women”trilogy. As a“moral preacher”in the eyes of readers,Alcott’s views fit the social cultural context of the United States in the 19th century, showing her concerns and affirmations of women’s traditional identities and domestic roles. As an advocate for progressive feminist thoughts, she,in the first wave of the feminist movement, expresses her demands for equal rights for women including suffrage in her works. However, while Alcott conveys the progressive concepts of women’s ethics and morality, her compromise is also exposed.Alcott’s“compromise”can be seen as a feasible strategy to express her own progressive claims under certain social conditions.Alcott’s ethics and morality not only influence the progressive movement at that time, but also leave positive and far-reaching impacts on the later generations.
